CPTE exam dates 2026–2027, deadlines and fees

Every remaining Canadian Physiotherapy Examination sitting, its application deadline, and what the exam and every change to your booking costs — with a way to work out which date to aim for.

Updated 10 October 2026 from CAPR's Dates and Fees page. CAPR can change dates; confirm on alliancept.org before you plan around one.

Exam dates and application deadlines

Applications go through CAPR's Client Portal and close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on the deadline. The deadlines for both remaining 2026 sittings (24 October and 9 December) have passed; the next open deadline is 12 December 2026.

Work backwards from the deadlineThe deadline is about ten weeks before the exam, and CAPR emails your appointment three weeks before. Most candidates need three to four months of structured preparation for both sections. So for the 20 February 2027 sitting: apply by 12 December, and be studying by mid-October. For 15 May 2027: apply by 6 March, start by January.

Fees, and what changes cost

ItemCost
Exam fee$2,500 ($1,800 for Feb–Dec 2026 sittings if you passed the PCE Written in 2025)
Reschedule before the application deadline$250
Reschedule after the deadline, more than 48 h before$1,250 (50%)
Reschedule less than 48 h before$2,500 (100%)
Withdraw before the application deadline90% refunded; you forfeit $250
Withdraw after the deadline, more than 48 h before50% refunded; you forfeit $1,250
Withdraw less than 48 h before, no-show, more than 15 min late, or can't test for reasons within your controlNo refund
Complete the oral but don't start the written on timeNo refund (CAPR calls this abandonment)
Administrative reconsideration / appeal$410 each
Re-scoring$300

The pattern is simple: before the application deadline, a change costs $250; after it, half the fee; inside 48 hours, all of it. Book the sitting you can genuinely make, not the earliest one.

Choosing a date

Credentialing first. You can't register until CAPR has confirmed your eligibility. Internationally educated physiotherapists whose credentialing is still in progress should plan around the decision date, not the exam calendar.

One five-hour day. The oral section (10 cases, 2.5 hours) runs first, then a break of about an hour, then the 100-question written section. A date where you can be rested and undisturbed at home for the whole day matters more than a date a month earlier.

Leave room for one full rehearsal. Your last two weeks should include a complete timed mock of both sections in the exam-day order. If the date you're considering doesn't leave room for that, take the next one.

Repeat candidates. You must wait for your result before re-applying, and the result window plus the next deadline can mean skipping a sitting. Check the deadline of the sitting after the one you'd like.

Preparing for a specific sitting

PT StudyBuddy's CPTE program gives 12 months of access, so it covers a date that moves. Written lectures, 34 oral sessions, 12 timed mocks and the oral case bank are all on the portal from the day you enrol.

Common questions

When is the next CPTE?

24 October 2026 (overflow 23 October), then 9 December 2026 (overflow 8 December), but the application deadlines for both (15 August and 30 September 2026) have passed. The next sitting you can apply for is 20 February 2027, with a deadline of 12 December 2026.

What is the overflow date?

Each sitting has a second date the day before or after. If more candidates apply than examiners and proctors can handle on the main day, some are scheduled on the overflow date. Keep both days free; your Exam Appointment Confirmation, sent three weeks before, tells you which one you have.

How much does the CPTE cost in 2027?

$2,500 for every 2027 sitting. The $1,800 transition fee applies only to 2026 sittings for candidates who passed the 2025 PCE Written.

Can I apply for two sittings to be safe?

No. CAPR registers you for one administration at a time and you must wait for your result before applying again.

What if I miss the application deadline by a day?

You can't apply or reschedule into that sitting. Deadlines are 11:59 p.m. Eastern, through the Client Portal only, and CAPR does not accept late applications.
